The Topshop Mouse Nest Commemoration
Many people know of the toy factory that used to be housed in our old studio building, in what is now called ‘The Bussey Building’. But most people do not know the long history of textile manufacturing which occurred for many years after Bussey vacated the building. Among others, this included a factory who manufactured items for Topshop until about 2010. This factory was directly above our old studio, and during one of our infrequent ceiling cleaning sessions, we uncovered a mouse nest made almost exclusively from Topshop clothes labels. As the ceiling was so unstable, and the mouse nest may have been structural, we decided to leave it in place. But when the building was extensively renovated and the mouse nest destroyed in 2016, we rescued some of the labels and combined them together with this photograph of the original nest in-situ to create this reliquary.
Call of the Wild by Nigel
Nigel is an artist who lived in Notting Hill and regularly came to exhibitions at the Westbourne Grove Artspace in the early 2000’s where members of Garudio Studiage exhibited regularly. In this atmospheric painting inspired by Jack London's classic novel "The Call of the Wild”, we see the key human character, 2 dogs/wolves, a church and a spaceship - the spaceship is 100% Nigel’s intervention, and this does not appear in the story, but this only adds to the magic.
It’s my Sake
Brought to you by the well known ‘COPY RIGHT’ brand of fragrances, this is one of a number of amazing fake perfumes, which also included ‘Huggo Boos’ and ‘Wolf Lady’ which were sold in the Pound Shops on Rye Lane and Deptford High Street in the early 2000’s, and this example was procured by the museum at the height of Issey Miyake’s fame. The cardboard box is a slightly faded example but the bottle is unopened, due to worries about chemical burns or blinding….
Bird Clocks (pair)
Imagine awakening to the gentle embrace of sunlight filtering through your curtains, while a melodic serenade dances through the air. Yes, it's the sweet ‘Lovely Bird Chirping’ greeting you as you glance at the bird clock adorning your bed side.
Originally a regularly stocked item in Khan's Discount Bargains in Peckham’s Rye Lane, it is now never seen for sale, and this is probably the only existing pair and are almost certainly priceless and irreplaceable. Despite their beauty they are fully functioning, with the added advantage that a 12 hour rotation of the hands around the face of the Bird Clocks actually lasts for 13.25 hours, meaning each day has an extra 2.5 hours to get more done!
Eiton Joun - Smoking Welcome Only You
This humble object originally purchased on a early 2000’s trip to Brunei, is notable for its copyright infringement, spelling mistakes and general poor quality of manufacture which all combine to outshine the sum of its parts. In today's world, where the dangers of tobacco are well established, the Eiton Joun tobacco tin serves as a nostalgic relic, recalling a time when musicians enjoyed a certain freedom and rebellion.
Chris and Dante Portrait
Chris and Dante are captured together in this portrait capturing, painted by Nicola Baird, from a photograph originally taken when Chris and Dante were on strike outside the LCC Building at Elephant and Castle in 2022, vividly capturing the essence of the relationship between 2 key members of Garudio Studiage, and one of the very few images of Chris you will find anywhere.
Tiger in the Alps Clock
A unique item combining appalling time keeping with lethally sharp hand chipped glass ‘decoration’, this clock is a collision between worlds where among the alpine autumn foliage, a solitary tiger gracefully roams the rugged terrain. Despite being an exotic anomaly in this mountain paradise, the tiger thrives, unlike most people who have picked this up who have almost always ended up with cut hands.
