Making Fork Badges & Magnets
Introducing our new souvenir - Chip Fork Fridge Magnets and Badges! Celebrating of some of the U.K’s favourite seaside destinations designed and produced in response to their typographic personalities and the much loved dining utensil - the humble wooden chip fork.
Although this product is based on the cheapest and most ubiquitous item, it’s required quite a bit of work to develop into a ‘proper’ product.
Firstly, the actual chip forks are really weak and couldn’t be used to make an actual sellable product, se we had to laser cut this shape from 3mm FSC certified plywood to create a strong but light base for both the magnets and badges.
The typography on each design is developed from key sights in that locations - Brighton - the Palace Pier signage, Blackpool - The illuminations and Folkestone - the restored Train Station signage from the Harbour Arm disused train station. These typographic ‘logos’ were then printed in colours which reflected and represent the type references and places.
These type artworks were then tiled up to match the laser cut artwork and hand screen printed in batches of 48.
The packaging was then designed and developed using a glassine envelope as this is the same material most chips are sold in now as the grease proof inner layer, before the traditional newsprint wrapper.
More designs might follow subject to demand……But for now, these versions are available here.
